as far as my research has gone iv read that the formula is curbwieghtx1.5= the minimum number of pounds i will need. but that only puts me at about a 6000lb winch. Which doesn't seem like enough to me. Plus i would like to be a help to some of the fuller sized guys out their. I believe from what i read i should be good with a 9000lb winch, but i would still like feedback from you guys.

I have had a warn 8000 for 6 years now... I replaced a couple of brushes (when I made a large mistake), other than that it is a great winch. There has been a couple of times when I have strapped to a tree to pull out a full size truck and it was tough on it. I think a 8000 warn would be a great winch on your rig.

an 8k winch will do in a pinch...I've seen 8274's on fullsize trucks. Get a snatch block anyway, they come in handy for harder and off-angle pulls as well. On a <4k# Jeep...8k is just fine. 9 to 10k is OK but mostly overkill, you're unlikely to use the whole pull...and if you need that much, up here you're just going to be sliding your jeep towards the stuck. If you tie off to an anchor you're likely to tweak your unibody frame.

when I was looking for a winch for my truck, people at warn tech. were alot of help! they ask what was the wieght of the truck, what I was planning on using the winch for ( recovery etc. or just pulling my own veh.) for my truck they recommend a 12000lb for recovery, a 10000lb for just pulling my rig out using just my own winch. but then I've seen an article about a guy in utah that has what looks like an atv winch on his cj7 an says it works great! so what it boils down to is what you are comfortable with having on your veh.

thanks for the help guys. I think im gunna go with the Smittybuilt Xrc-10, 10,000lb winch. I'v read some reviews and the only negative thing i'v seen is that its slow.....but im in no hurry on the trail. And you cant go wrong with 400 bucks on 4wheelparts.com
