Default Tire Bill

http://newsminer.com/view/full_story...dow_left_top_2
How would you like to have to change tires at the trailhead for winter runs?
Do you really think the lawmakers with all their wisdom are going to consider large mud tires "winter tires"
I can hear the argument now about big tires not having traction on ice.
I'll be the first to call BS on that one. I've run winter Duellers on my trucks and several brands of mud tires. All but one of the brands of mud tires that I have run have got as good or better traction on the ice on my heavy fullsize trucks than the Duellers.
And I have never been in the ditch running a mud tire.

They give absolutely no definition of snow tires, but being in the automotive business, the official definition is any tire that is designed as a mud and snow, Pretty much all off road tires except swampers say m&s on the side. They qualify. But I still say this bill is a freakin' joke. Also read into the article farther and you will find they are tagging the bill with the new law that talking on your cell while driving will be illegal. We need to fight this bill as an organization, not just individuals, We have more power that way.

Teach people to drive, not re-equip their vehicles

We are talking about the real world, not military installations.

lots of states have banned cell phone usage and texting while driving, and not just on military installations. But forcing people to buy new tires when the ones they have are good enough isn't going to fly. AK isn't exactly a nanny state, and their legislation history shows it. This won't pass.

The bill includes in it's wording, that the tires must have the industry standard mountain snowflake logo to be legal. So kiss your Swampers, BFGoodrich's, and MTR's goodbye for winter runs.
