Default First manufactured manual transmission

I'm trying something out....
Test your knowledge on trivial stuff..


1st question:

Who was the first manufacturer of the manual transmission and in what year?

The manual transmission was first used and invented in the United States and Canada. It was created by Louis-Rene Panhard and Emile Levassor in 1894. By the year 1904 the manual transmission was being used on cars.

The facts are correct but they were innventors not manufacturers. i.e. Dana-Spicer

Interesting facts:
Before the manual transmission the friction gearless transmission was used a lot. Gearless made the best one and had 22" aluminum plates that spun a plate covered in a straw mat to turn the rear wheels.

Renault developed the first drive shafts and differentials, before that Panhard-Lavassor used chain driven solid axles (no diff)

OK answer is Warner Gear which later merged with 4 other companies to become Borg-Warner... year 1909 same year as the Model T.
