OK, went to go hook up the new CB today. The manual says it needs to be hooked up to two 12a fuses. Heres my issue, i only have one 12a. I have many 10a and 15a fuses.... i was wondering if i changed the fuses in the power wires to 15a would it be safe to hook it up to the 15a without blowing it. I hooked it up to the 10a fuses and it worked (as far as it got power) couldnt get a radio check. and would just keeping it hooked to the 10a reduce my range.

Im curious as to why it want 2 12amp fuses?!? However the way mine is I run the power wire to a unused/empty circut in my fuse box and then there is a inline fuse on the power wire. Works fine. Zoomy is the C.B guru here and can answer you C.B questions.

Go to schucks, walmart, or napa. Purchase a inline fuse.(preferably the square fuses) If need be buy some 14 or 16 gauge wire. Get some butt connectors if needed. Also ends to hook to battery. Connect inline fuse to wire either the Cab end or Engine compartment end. Feed wire through firewall on drivers side somewheres. Easy as brownies.

Some CBs come with 2 hot wires. One for 12v always on and 1 for ignition wire.

one fused wire is for a constant and the other goes to an accessory.

Never go higher on fuses...always lower than spec. If something screws up and it takes 14 amps, and you have a 12A in there, you're safe...but if you have a 15A in there your rig can go POOF! If it works with a 10A, go with that. I don't understand why a CB would need even one, much less TWO 12A fuses when most old-school fullsize CB's use one 10 and the smaller ones only use a single 3A.
