Anyone have info on building a link system? I understand the physics of having a longer arm for better axle position during articulation and all that but I've never seen a system on how long an arm should be. Do you just see what will work on your frame and build around that ? And also on air shocks do they have an air system running them or are they free standing?

It depends on the air shocks. Most are free standing and tied together but some do come with little pumps.

as far as air shocks, I was looking at some 16" travel for the front. I wasn't sure if they run off a compressor system like leveling shocks or not. I guess I should do some searching

Do a search for 4-link and 3-link calculators...they're excel files where you input your roll center, COG, arm lengths and angles, axle and frame mount separation, etc and it outputs your squat vs. antisquat figures which are really the only things that matter when designing a link setup for a 4x4.

Here's a good link: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=122231&highlight=TOTW

air shocks are just oil/air charged shocks that act as both springs and shocks due to the shaft diameter being so much larger than just a shock absorber. I don't remember seeing any which were connected at all to a central system, besides an airbag setup or Land rover's air suspension setup.

Nice thanks for the link on links. :) I had been reading a book on chassis design but it wasn't giving me what I wanted because it referred everything to road racing. I guess I was learning the right stuff just in the wrong context.

Control Arms is calling for a global, legally binding Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) to stop weapons being used to fuel conflict, poverty and human rights abuses. The campaign is run jointly by International Action Network on Small Arms, Amnesty International, and Oxfam International.

???? joke?

Here's an Xtreme4x4 episode where he explains link setups and builds a mock Double Triangulated-4-link and explains a bunch of other stuff.
