I've wrestled with throttle cables for a while now and was wondering what you all do or have seen that works. I'm talking about AMC engines with Edelbrock carbs. I'm sure it is similiar to others though. I've had stock cables shred on me and there isn't a way to shorten them for the new carb. I currently have a spectre cheapo one on there but it sucks and got my Jeep stuck in Anchorage and then Seattle and now is shipped as inoperable because it screwed up again. In fact my father had an idea so I spent a couple hours transforming a motorcycle throttle cable into something he could use for his CJ. I have my doubts but we'll see how that goes....

Check to be sure you have a good engine ground. If your ground is corroded or not connected, the engine will ground through the throttle cable and cause it to wear out quickly as it keeps arcing to the cable housing. I've seen it happen before on several different vehicles. They just kept eating cables until it was corrected.

Interesting. The one I'm working on has a fiberglass body so there is a negative cable going from the block to the frame and the negative on the battery is bolted to the intake manifold. Since the coil has been moved to the back of the engine we utilized the old bolt hole it used to use in the font.
I'm thinking the curves it has to take is a big factor. It basicly has to make an S curve to align correctly. The aftermarket cheapo one wears through the bolt that goes through the firewall fairly quickly and the braided cable sheath seems to eat the little square plastic end at the mount. I'm even considering a pully type system kinda like the throttle bodies.
